MS in Applied IT Degree

Explore the Advantages of Earning an Online MS in Information Technology/Applied Information Technology Degree

Information technology remains one of today’s most in-demand career fields, both in the United States and around the world. Recent years have seen a growing workforce gap, as the need for professionals with advanced IT skills continues to outpace the number of specialists qualified to fill current job openings.

Technical expertise is highly valued and necessary for these positions, and graduates with a master’s in information technology tend to be hired quickly. But beyond the staff needed for day-to-day IT operations, more employers are seeking out professionals who use advanced strategies and best practices in applying information technology to solve organizational challenges and improve outcomes.

Educating Applied Information Technology Experts

Montclair State University is preparing graduates to meet the demands of tomorrow’s IT workforce through the online Master of Science in Information Technology program with a concentration in Applied Information Technology. As a nationally certified Professional Science Master’s (PSM) degree, the program integrates the National Professional Science Master’s Association (NPSMA) “Science Plus” curriculum structure.

This online master’s in information technology program includes all of the foundational knowledge necessary to guide IT operations. But it also goes beyond the basics with specialized coursework in applied information technology, which focuses on leveraging IT to improve efficiency and effectiveness in business operations.

Students in Montclair State’s online MS in Information Technology/Applied Information Technology program will develop expertise in designing, developing, implementing, supporting and testing applications for computing and communication technologies. Yet the program’s takeaways still go deeper than that.

Empowering Graduates With an Enterprise Perspective

Graduates of this online master’s in information technology program will not only be well versed in the technical aspects of applied IT, but they will also come away with an enterprise perspective. Within the applied information technology concentration, students will learn how to manage and implement IT to address the challenges faced by 21st-century businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

Upon completion of the degree program, graduates will have mastered skills and knowledge related to the intersection of information technology with communications, management and legal concepts. These insights will enable them to support the successful implementation of innovative technology at all levels of an organization.

In addition, all students will complete an industry internship in their final semester in place of the traditional master’s thesis. This not only provides connections with potential employers but also offers greater opportunities to explore the enterprise perspective.

MS in Information Technology: Applied Information Technology Curriculum

The master’s in information technology/applied information technology program comprises 11 courses and a total of 33 credit hours, and can be completed in as little as two years.
